Book Two has been Retitled!

Do you notice the difference? After much consideration, I recently decided to make a one-letter change in the name of the ship in Book Two. Instead of "Jawn Header," the ship is now the "Jawn Heeder." [UPDATE: I retitled it again on 5/30/22 and changed it to "John Heeder." This was done to more clearly convey what is supposed to be a reference to Napoleon Dynamite in the name of the ship.

The original version has been discontinued, and the re-titled version of the ebook is available at [UPDATED: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0B2QK7VRD]

and the paperback is available at:

I confess that, years ago, when I first conceived the idea of parodying C.S. Lewis' Dawn Treader with a ship named after Napoleon Dynamite star Jon Heder, I thought his last name was pronounced "Header" and so that's how I wrote it in the parody. I later learned I was mispronouncing it. But more than that, it always bugged me that the name of the ship in the title seemed too close to the Narnian ship, and the reference to Heder's movie was too vague.

Now, with the spelling and pronunciation changed to "Heeder, " I hope that I've finally worked out a ship name and book title that mashes up the targets of the parody properly, without seriously infringing on C.S. Lewis' legacy or Jon Heder's good name.

Considering that so far, hardly anyone has read the original version of the book, it also means that... hardly anyone will notice the change. And probably even fewer people will see this blog post anyway. But that's the way it is in the world of a DIY self-publishing hobbyist.

Now all I have to do is re-record all twenty-six or so instances of the name of the ship in the audiobook so that I can resume the audio post-production. It shouldn't be difficult, it's just a matter of finding the willpower to set up my microphone and actually do it. Fortunately for me, the first eight chapters, which have already finished production, were not affected by this change, and you still can hear them for free on my Soundclick site.

Book Two is now on sale!

NOTICE: this blog post has been edited retroactively to reflect the updated spelling of the book title.

Hi everyone-- I am pleased to announce that Book Two of the Jerry Copperpot series, Jerry Copperpot and the Voyage of the John Heeder, is now up for sale on Amazon as a paperback and an ebook!  Check it out!

When Magicternia castle is chosen to be the set for the Harvey Totter film franchise, Jerry Copperpot is sure that he's in for a fantastic summer! But life on a movie set is nothing like he expects, and he soon finds himself wishing he could get away from it all. He gets his wish when a hidden computer program reveals directions to a mysterious island in another universe-- a place where discarded ideas and fictional plot tropes come to life! It seems like the perfect vacation spot, but danger (predictably) lurks on the island, and small actions bring huge consequences. Will Jerry and his friends escape the island? You can probably guess what happens next, but you'll want to join them anyway, on a brand-new adventure with a whole new cast of wacky personalities, in this exciting sequel to Jerry Copperpot and the Magician's Mashup!

Book Two continues to move forward!

01 August 2020:

Just a quick note to let everyone know, that I've completed a recording of raw audio that will eventually become the audiobook of book two-  Jerry Copperpot and the Voyage of the Jawn Header. It will be a very long time before the second audiobook is ready, but my nine-year-old insisted on listening to it in its raw form with all the repetitions and mistakes, so I'm already getting some feedback on it!

The audio recording doubles as my final self-editing pass on the text, meaning that the text editing is complete, and I can move on to the process of formatting it for ebook and paperback publishing. I've got a lot going on this month, so who knows how long the next step will take. Stay tuned for updates!

Also, I've made a little bit of progress on book 3. I'm a couple of pages into writing the second chapter, but the story is only barely starting to coalesce from a smattering of notes, character and scene ideas into a coherent narrative.

And, for those who don't know yet, the audiobook for book 1 is now also available on  Amazon/Audible!

Thanks for all your support!

Welcome!

This metafictional parody mash-up follows the adventures of magician-in-training Jerry Copperpot, who is perpetually eleven years old and trying to find out why. After he finds a book in the library about a boy sorcerer named Harvey Totter whose world strangely mirrors his own, Jerry embarks on an adventure that takes him places he never could have imagined! This first novel by Mike Goble spoofs all kinds of sci-fi and fantasy tv shows, books, and movies from the '80s and '90s. Check it out!

Soon to be available for purchase, narrated by the author himself, complete with bad voice acting in fake accents! But seriously, this production has been a labor of love over the past year and I'm really excited for people to hear this. Thank you so much in advance for listening! -- Mike
